Thumbnail-Europa-1

The European Union commission rewarded the EOSIO based Wordproof with €1M for winning the 'Blockchains for Social Good' contest. EOSIO technology proves its potential once again!

The goal of the 'Blockchains for Social Good' contest was to explore blockchain applications in the field of social innovation, in particular in the areas of:

  • traceability and fair trade
  • financial inclusion
  • decentralised circular economy
  • transparency of public processes
  • participation in democratic decision-making
  • management of public records

In addition to other areas defined by the applicants.

The Dutch startup WordProof won the first place for "Quality Content", as by using EOSIO technology it allows authenticity of online contents and make information verifiable. The service allows to display a timestamp of content edits, so that content owners can prove that they did not tamper with their content. All of this is accessible through a simple browser plugin.

"While the revolutionary potential of blockchains has been tested in the financial domain in particular, its possible applications in social domains and to address sustainability challenges have been explored far less. The results of this Prize are very important for the development of the Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative, which will continue to explore the potential of Blockchain in new application areas, in particular to address local and global sustainability challenges in relation to the SDGs."
